Commercial Sheet Metal Roofing Crew Leader Responsibilities:
5 years experience in Commercial Sheet Metal Roofing
  • Setting projects sites up including equipment and daily production projections
  • Identifying safety related issues and correcting those issues including making sure that all members of the crew are meeting GSM standards and OSHA requirements
  • Working with Project Managers/Superintendent to set daily goals. Then directing crew to meet the goals set
  • Coordinating project activities with GC's/Clients holding to the standard of (Sun Down Rule)
  • Involved in sub-contractors meetings and POA meetings with clients or GSM managers
  • Protecting the materials and equipment on the jobsite as well as the contents in the building during projects
  • Understanding the overall roof assembly and product that pertain to metal installs. Overseeing the installation of the metal or accessories into a functional roofing system
  • Master at how metal components and roofing systems work together in order to make adjustments and repair issues that arise in the field
  • Teaching and communicating with crew members with procedures, roofing techniques, personal goals of individual co-workers and morning tool box talks
  • Maintaining roof appearance during and after project is completed. Tasking the appropriate crew members to material adjustment/cleaning tasks
  • Ability to implement proper manufactures installation requirements for inspections and also to guide the crew and teach members to be proficient
  • Ability to use all equipment, hand tools, powered tools that are associated with metal roofing installation
  • Ability to identify specific safety hazards and correct them. Contact the management team and also Safety Director for sound advice or of the corrective action taken
  • Communicate effectively with Project Manager/Superintendent orally and written
  • Filling out all job book reports to include 2 week look ahead/daily reports/daily huddles and have them turned in weekly by Friday
  • Capable of receiving constructive criticism and learning from mistakes
  • Physically able to lift 80 lbs., maneuver heavy equipment and work at heights and climb 40' ladders
  • To always have the drive to learn and build leadership and metal roofing skills through training provided in the company

Commercial Sheet Metal Roofing Crew Leader Requirements/Skills:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Following all GSM Services policies, OSHA, SMACNA, manufacturer specifications and inspectors guidelines
  • Awareness of the job-site safety program and hold co-workers accountable
  • Ability to read blue prints and trouble shoot metal diagrams
  • Possess the ability to use basic math and problem-solving skills
  • Company standards met at all jobsites/office areas i.e. cleanliness, neat appearance, proper GSM clothing
  • Punctuality, attendance required or proper documentation giving reason
  • Mandatory safety/company meetings required

  • Can read and write to a high school level
  • Required hand tools for roofing by GSM Services:

  • Receive/Maintain a certificate with GSM Services as a forklift operator Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) certification which include lifts, lulls and other equipment
  • Must be able to withstand hot strenuous and dirty work conditions

Commercial Sheet Metal Roofing Crew Leader Leadership Level:
  1. Lead and train 5 to 10 crew members
  2. Performance Improvement Plan (PIP's) and performance evaluations
  3. Daily reports, 2 week look ahead and Crew Leader meetings
  4. The ability to use electronics to take pictures and send emails
  5. Responsible and accountable for the following:
  • Knowledge improvement
  • Self-improvement in performance
  • Crew improvement
  • Truck cleanliness
  • Truck tools
  • Understanding and demonstrating all use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Responsibilities at all Levels:
Maintain the overall standards of quality, performance and courtesy set forth by GSM Services and its leadership team. Provide Comfort & Peace of Mind to our customers and co-workers
Responsible for wearing proper uniforms and maintaining personal appearance to GSM Services standards
Maintain attendance in accordance with GSM Services Attendance Policy
Responsible for daily time records, ensuring it is accurate and approved by crew leader
Comply with all GSM Services safety regulations
Maintain all tools and equipment in proper working condition
Work each day to the Sundown Rule
Possess the ability to read and write English to high school level
Additional duties as assigned
Working conditions:
  • Exposure to weather conditions, able to handle working in extreme heat/cold
  • Work conditions will include construction environment, rooftops, ladders
  • Able to set up, climb and take down ladders
