Job Scope
The Lead Landscape Tech is a full-time position with Shea Properties (Shea), D/B/A Tech Center Maintenance (TCM), responsible for assisting managers and supervisors in coordinating projects, crews the execution and delivery of high-quality services associated with landscape maintenance activities, and special projects within the assigned portfolio. The Lead Landscape Tech is expected to provide leadership while maintaining a positive attitude to ensure a safe and fun work environment is promoted. The pay range for this position is $22.00 to $26.00/hour and the Lead Landscape Tech also eligible to participate in the snow incentive program and discretionary annual bonus plan. JF Shea offers a competitive benefit package including PTO, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, 401k, disability and life insurance. Full time associates receive a company provided RTD Pass.
The Lead Landscape Tech, as with all Shea team members, is expected to conduct himself / herself in a professional manner that is consistent with Shea Core Values and the Business Ethics, Employee Conduct and Confidentiality policy.
Job Duties
  • Cooperate, communicate and work together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgement.
  • Responsible for the training and direction of landscape crew members, including temporary staffing and outside contractors associated with special projects.
  • Support crew members to learn and use required technology for timely and accurate reporting.
  • Oversee and participate in all mowing operations including but not limited to: scheduling, labor, and equipment allocation between crews.
  • Conduct daily property inspections to ensure service meets company standards are is consistent with stated goals and objectives.
  • Proactively communicate with managers and supervisors to report on crew activities, progress, potential problems and observations to effectively coordinate project activities.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for employees and clients.
  • Responsible for mowing, planting, pruning, and weeding shrub beds, flower beds, and trees.
  • Performs special landscape projects (sodding, seeding, mulching, planting etc).
  • Uses designated vehicles to transport self / employees / equipment to job site.
  • Participate as needed, in all general grounds maintenance, including snow removal, special projects, annual flower planning, bed preparation, planting and ongoing shrub, perennial and tree maintenance, removal and planting.
  • Procurement of plant material for replacements or special projects.
  • Winter operations, position requires snow shoveling and equipment operation in cold and adverse weather conditions.
  • Cleaning, renovation and painting of district infrastructure and facilities.
  • May be assigned project oversight, training, safety program, equipment inventory, administration and record keeping duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Technical/Professional Knowledge (Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience)
  • Minimum 1 year applicable landscape experience.
  • Must possess positive and effective communication skills.
  • Landscape industry or related certified designation or similar training is highly desirable.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license in good standing.

Work Environment
The Lead Landscape Tech work schedule varies depending on weather. Hours are normally from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position is required to work weekends (Sat/Sun) or late at night if there are heavy snow falls or emergencies. However, the Lead Landscape Tech should be flexible and on call depending on the needs of the customers.
Work is primarily performed in a variety of field settings, on diverse grounds surrounding apartment units, office, industrial and retail space environments and occasionally performed in an office environment. With regular exposure to heavy vehicle traffic conditions, frequent street-traffic and equipment noise, working with/near moving motorized equipment and hand-tools, mechanical parts, chemicals and airborne particles. Will work in all weather conditions, with constant interruptions, risk of electrical shock and potentially explosive gases. The incumbent will be exposed to wet, humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and work with various landscape materials including, yet not limited to the following dirt, sod, concrete, and wood materials, in earth-trenches and tight enclosed environments.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach with hands and arms and lift objects up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to be proficient in speaking to customers, and have flexible and adaptable vision, including close, peripheral, depth-perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to operate company vehicle during the course of duties.
