What are Certified Hand Therapists?

Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) are licensed occupational or physical therapists who specialize in the rehabilitation of conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities. They have advanced training and must pass a rigorous certification exam after completing a minimum number of hours treating hand and upper limb injuries. CHTs work with patients recovering from surgeries, injuries, or disorders to restore function, decrease pain, and improve quality of life. Their expertise ensures that patients receive the most effective therapy tailored to the complex structures of the hand and arm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Certified Hand Therapist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Certified Hand Therapist, you need advanced knowledge of upper extremity anatomy, rehabilitation techniques, and a background as an occupational or physical therapist with CHT certification. Familiarity with specialized therapeutic tools, splint fabrication, and electronic health record systems is essential. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and empathy help in building strong patient relationships and tailoring treatment plans. These skills ensure effective rehabilitation outcomes, patient satisfaction, and professional credibility in this specialized field.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Certified Hand on a construction site?

As a Certified Hand on a construction site, your daily responsibilities often include assisting skilled tradespeople, operating basic equipment, maintaining tools, and ensuring the work area is safe and organized. You may also be tasked with transporting materials, cleaning up debris, and supporting various phases of construction projects. Collaboration with other team members is crucial, as you’ll often work alongside carpenters, electricians, and site supervisors to meet project deadlines and quality standards. Adapting quickly to changing tasks and following safety protocols are key aspects of the role.
