We are seeking a passionate and engaging middle school science teacher for a one year temporary position to job share with a teacher who will be serving as Dean for half of each day. The teacher would be responsible for teaching two ⅞ science classes per day, shared planning with the teacher/Dean and the ⅞ team to create integrated learning experiences, and serving the whole child. Outdoor education, field trips (both day-long and overnight) and community learning experiences are integral to our program. Team-building and advisory are at the heart of the Horizons, because of the importance placed on social and emotional education. Horizons K-8 teachers create classes in a variety of disciplines to meet the program's needs including health units, outdoor education, and choice-based electives. Our ideal candidate will be an innovator who can help students learn to be powerful communicators and provide differentiated learning experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of this position.
  • Positively impact student growth and achievement, using progressive instructional strategies, state standards, and strong knowledge of the appropriate curriculum and content area
  • Use assessments including performance-based learning to help students set goals, and to targe instruction
  • Effectively manage the learning environment, supervise students
  • Understand, appreciate, and be responsive to student diversity
  • Understand the components of inquiry-based learning and implement problem-based learning experiences, both short and long term, for multi-age classroom instruction
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and community
  • Follow state legal requirements and district and charter school building policies and procedures

Co-plan and deliver middle level science lessons according to Colorado State Standards, perform and analyze assessments, supervise students, communicate with parents, participate in middle school team meetings, implement Multi-Systems of Support (MTSS) and special education/504 plans, and build strong family and community partnerships.

Qualifications:
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Colorado Teaching License required; Highly qualified in Secondary Science and experience with multi-age and middle school teaching preferred.
  • Completed and submitted Horizons K-8 online application
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of comfort with differentiation and inclusive practices
  • Cooperative learning, hands-on learning, inquiry-based learning
  • Performance based or alternative assessments
  • Experience with and desire to support social-emotional development in adolescents also preferred.
  • Experience with technology-integrated teaching is highly desired


Salary Information:
Salary: Commensurate with experience and position on the Horizons K-8 Teacher Salary Schedule which can be found via the Horizons K-8 website. Up to 5 years of prior experience considered for step placement.
