Grounds Assistant - River Campus 

University School of Nashville seeks an additional staff member to join its well-established River Campus grounds team. Under general direction, the Grounds Assistant is expected to perform daily grounds care at USN's River Campus. Job duties will include mowing, utilizing a line trimmer and leaf/debris blower, as well as performing entry-level sports field care, some chemical application, entry-level irrigation repair, general construction, restroom maintenance, ice/snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks, and assisting other operations staff in various tasks related to the school's River Campus and Main Campus. The Grounds Assistant reports to the River Campus Director. This position is full-time non-exempt, 40 hours per week (Monday - Saturday) and some occasional after hours. 

Duties 

  • Utilize and operate a zero-turn commercial grounds mower in a safe and productive manner
  • Utilize a line trimmer for an extended period of time (up to 7 hours per day) to trim around fences, buildings, bleachers, and landscape features
  • Assist in the painting and lining of sports fields for practices and games
  • Assist Athletic Directors and Coaches with various needs involving sporting events
  • Operate heavy equipment in a safe and productive manner
  • Assist in turf maintenance chemical applications by dragging/carrying a very heavy spray hose for extended periods of time
  • Assist in daily trash pick-up and restroom cleaning
  • Assist in general construction, including but not limited to some electrical, plumbing, irrigation, and various facility repair work
  • Perform equipment maintenance including general repair, oil and fluid changes, blade removal, blade installation, and cleaning
  • Other duties as assigned by the River Campus Director

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of two years in grounds and landscape care
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Skills and Abilities

  • High degree of physical fitness with the ability to lift a minimum of 150 pounds multiple times per day
  • Work productively in temperature extremes from single digits to triple digits
  • Maintain a positive and helpful attitude while executing various types of arduous manual labor
  • Interact with USN coaches, students, parents, teachers, staff, and vendors in a positive, helpful, and professional manner
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks and duties in the prescribed manner
