An effective Paint and Finishing Bay Team Member prepares, paints, and bundles fabricated assemblies in an efficient and safe manner to the specifications of the shop drawings. They manage their time and materials effectively to maintain a steady flow of production, helping to maintain a fast and productive pace for the entire production line. This team member is competent in their role, motivated to perform at a high level, and adaptable to various tasks. Paint Bay Team Members must meet several physical demands due to the nature of the work:

Strength and Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy tools, materials, and equipment (often 100+ lbs.). Some lifting may be sustained for long periods.

Manual Dexterity: Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to handle welding tools and perform precise welds.

Endurance: Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, or climb for extended periods.

Flexibility: Must be able to work in various positions, including overhead, vertical, and confined spaces.

Visual Acuity: Good vision (with or without correction) to inspect welds and read blueprints.

Balance and Coordination: Especially important when working at heights or on scaffolding.

Work Locations: Indoor fabrication shop and occasional outdoor work.

Weather Exposure: Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, and wind.

A Paint and Finishing Bay Team Member operates primarily in a structural steel fabrication shop, which presents a variety of environmental and physical hazards. The role always requires strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Environmental Conditions:
• Exposure to high noise levels from cutting, grinding, and welding operations.
• Frequent presence of paint, dust, fumes, and airborne particles, especially from painting, welding and metal finishing.
• Variable temperatures due to open bay doors, welding heat, and seasonal changes.
• Occasional work at elevated heights or in confined spaces during preparation or painting of large assemblies.
Physical Hazards:
• Risk of cuts, burns, and abrasions from sharp edges, hot surfaces, and painting equipment.
• Potential for impact injuries from moving steel components, bundlers, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery.
• Exposure to welding arcs, UV radiation and metal fragments, requiring proper eye and skin protection.
• Manual handling of heavy tools and materials, requiring proper lifting techniques and ergonomic awareness.
Safety Requirements:
• Must wear appropriate PPE including steeltoed boots, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and flameresistant clothing.
• Must be trained in many safety topics including but not limited to hazard communication (HazCom), lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, and confined space entry procedures.
• Expected to participate in regular safety meetings, audits, and emergency drills.
• Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions and participating in continuous improvement of shop safety practices.

Compliance: Must follow OSHA safety standards and AISC Quality and Painting standards

Work Schedule: May include overtime, weekends, and night shifts depending on project deadlines.
