Job description

Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer

VDOT is hiring a Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and manage cloud infrastructure in the agency’s Microsoft Azure environment. We seek a hands-on engineer passionate about secure, highly available cloud architectures who can lead cloud migrations, create monitoring/DR strategies, and provide technical guidance to teams and leadership.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement, configure, maintain, and provide guidance on Azure resources, networking, and security policies.
  • Plan and execute migrations from on-premises to Azure for enterprise workloads.
  • Support production applications; troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Design and maintain monitoring, observability, and alerting using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, and Alerts.
  • Develop and oversee backup and disaster recovery (DR) plans to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Work with security tooling (e.g., Tenable) to manage vulnerability remediation and security initiatives.
  • Collaborate with teams using multiple tech stacks (.NET, Java, SQL, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
  • 8+ years planning and executing cloud migrations from on-premises to Azure.
  • 8+ years supporting mission-critical enterprise environments and implementing backup & DR strategies.
  • 8+ years implementing networking and security policies in Azure.
  • 8+ years using Azure Monitor (Workbooks, Alerts) for observability and alerting.
  • 8+ years experience with vulnerability remediation and security initiatives.
  • Strong networking knowledge, including OSI layers and network protocols.
  • Comfortable providing technical guidance to peers and upper management.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect.
  • Networking certifications such as Network+, CCNA.
