Summary
The Senior Manager reports directly to the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Director. This role involves frequent travel to field locations to ensure the consistent implementation of HSE practices tailored to each work site's unique operational risks and hazards. The Senior Manager oversees the ongoing management, development, and supervision of the HSE team, leading initiatives and driving continuous improvement across the company. Success in this position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong leadership, and the ability to provide clear direction. The Senior Manager is expected to develop, implement, and maintain best-in-class support to deliver high and consistent service levels for both internal and external customers. Working independently, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, and thriving in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.
Essential Duties &Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers, and adhere to all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulations
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
- Manage the HSE Team, carry out supervisory responsibilities according to the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing feedback; and addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Promote Core values, lead by example, and act as an ambassador for the HSE Department and Astra Group
- Identify and leverage HSE best practices across divisions
- Maintain open communication with and support division and department lead to ensure coordination of HSE needs
- Advise the HSE Director on Health, Safety, and Environmental-related matters throughout the company
- Review project safety requirements before submitting the bid and advise the company on any site-specific training or equipment that may be necessary
- Present at or delegates to HSE Coordinators to be present during regulatory site visits
- Assist with and participate in client sales presentations and formal client meetings
- Work directly with operations and the HSE Director to determine proper HSE staffing needs
- Collaborate with Information Technology to identify and implement tools that enhance communication, streamline processes, and facilitate effective reporting
- Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience
- Must Have Civil Construction experience
- 7-10 years of experience within a safety role or industry
- Safety related degree
- Management experience
- OSHA 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Ability to travel, with minimal lead time, in response to HSE needs
- CUSP, CHST, or other applicable HSE certifications
- Certification in root-cause investigation
- First Aid & CPR Trainer
- Trench and Excavation Trainer
- Confined Space Entry Trainer
- DOT Enforcement Training

Physical Requirements
- Sit, stand, and walk continuously throughout the scheduled workday
- Stand, reach, drive and use fine motor skills frequently throughout the day
- Occasionally bend, kneel, squat, and climb throughout the workday
- Lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion
- Work both indoors and outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions and may be in loud environments
- Must work in a manner that will not jeopardize the health and safety of him/herself or others
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work in wet, humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, or the presence of fumes or airborne particles
