East Carolina University is the 3rd largest public university in North Carolina, with approximately 27,000 students and over 5,000 faculty and staff. The University is located approximately 85 miles east of Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina, and approximately 87 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital). ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
ECU Health and Acadia Healthcare have announced plans to build a state-of-the-art, 144-bed behavioral health facility that will open in the fall of 2025. The new facility will include 24 inpatient beds dedicated to the mental health needs of children and adolescents.
Job Duties
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and ECU Health Physicians is accepting applications for a Geriatric psychiatrist to serve as a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor. The position offers an excellent blend of clinic care, teaching, and scholarly activities in a growing, multidisciplinary, and collegial Department. The successful candidate will provide direct clinical care in both community-based and academic settings, providing neuropsychiatric assessments of new patients, psychiatric consultation on established patients with combined neurocognitive and behavioral symptoms. This role includes assisting in the teaching and clinical supervision of medical students, residents, and other health care professional trainees; collaborating with other faculty members in conducting clinical research, with the opportunity to initiate projects; and functioning as a university faculty member, performing such duties as appropriate to academic rank and position.
The clinical responsibilities may be in hospital-based (inpatient or CL Service) and/or outpatient settings.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.
Fixed Term or Tenure Track positions available at the title/rank of Assistant Professor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Professor, or Clinical Professor.
Minimum Education/Experience
Requirements include MD or foreign equivalent.
Completion of accredited residency training, Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship and
Qualified for board certification in psychiatry.
Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience in providing telepsychiatry services.
Experience in emergency psychiatry
