ABOUT THE ROLE

The Products Systems and Process Development R&D Director would lead high-performance team to drive innovation initiatives via front-end/proof-of-concept, product design and systems validation, field evaluations, through successful product launch as well as support operational excellence initiatives. As a catalyst in transforming the way Amrize Building Envelope innovates, the leadership role requires staying abreast of new roofing product technologies, understanding market space, manufacturing methods, materials innovation, new codes/compliance requirements, including advocating the implementation of best-in-class manufacturing practices and business-systems/PLM. Additionally, they would be accountable for successful delivery of strategic priorities via talent and resource management, stakeholder engagement, and Most-Effective Technology implementation.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH 
Creates a high performing team focused on innovation and delivery against Business goals - In partnership with stakeholders, prioritizes and manages project portfolio and technology platforms within area of accountability in support of innovation targets for the business
Works with external partners and internal groups to define, develop and execute front-end innovation/proof-of-concept projects while also providing technology leadership across PLM stage-gates to accelerate new product commercialization (linking building science, formulations, material science, manufacturing process and systems solution)
Manages day-to-day supervision of direct reports and accountable for talent and performance management (strategic hiring and talent development including succession planning), support Capex, Budgeting, and Site-Safety initiatives
Supports the development and implementation of organizational strategy, identifies, and resolves capability gaps while creating a culture of collaboration and accountability
Accountable for building and managing state-of-the art product development capabilities viz., virtual design and engineering, materials processing/pilot lines, specialized application
development and systems testing, implementation of AI initiatives to accelerate product development
Collaborates with Operations, Procurement, and Quality to identify, prioritize, and drive highvalue/high-impact manufacturing initiatives, business-continuity plan, cost-optimization opportunities, and continuous improvements (improve quality and overall productivity)
Partners with R&D and Operations to champion/lead implementation of strategic manufacturing process and/or facilitate the transfer and scale-up of new technologies within Operations to maintain industry leadership
Promote cross-functional collaboration, drive technical excellence culture, scientific rigor, and Project Management skill sets within team including developing effective partnerships across all levels of organization
Accountable for broader reach with external vendors, test-Labs, universities, and start-ups to understand emerging technologies, capabilities, and innovations and selection of strategic partners for co-development
Engage broader R&D team to collaborate with Product Management and Patent teams to support IP strategy and value-capture


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials Sci, or a related field). Advanced degrees (Master's, PhD) are highly desirable.
  • 15+ years relevant Building Products work experience leading R&D and/or Product Development with strong engineering foundations and advanced product and quality methodologies (virtual engineering viz., CAD and CAE, testing, prototype-build, labscale/pilot-line implementation, statistical tools, FMEA, DVP&R etc.).
  • Good understanding of commercial roofing materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to make data-driven decisions - Demonstrated competence in leading and driving successful launch of innovative products delivering significant business growth
    Strong background in project management and technology leadership with demonstrable success in managing complex, cross-functional projects and teams.
  • Proven track record in implementing and leading continuous improvement initiatives, cost reduction, process improvement, materials innovation, and expertise in integrating and optimizing technology within operational processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a diverse team and mentor/coach technical staff.
  • Demonstrable ability to solve complex engineering problems, manage risks, and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Travel: <15% (HQ - Nashville, Manufacturing sites, Vendors etc.).
