Job description

Truck & Trailer Mechanic - Class 8 Fleet
Altom Transport | Gulf Region
Altom Transport is seeking an experienced Truck & Trailer Mechanic to support maintenance operations across our Gulf region.
This is a hands-on role ideal for a skilled technician who takes pride in keeping equipment safe, compliant, and road-ready. You'll play a key role in maintaining our fleet of tractors and tanker trailers to ensure reliable service for our customers.
Altom Transport is a trusted carrier specializing in petroleum and chemical tanker transportation, where safety, reliability, and equipment uptime are critical to our operations.

What You'll Do
As a Truck & Trailer Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet while supporting safe and efficient shop operations.
Fleet Maintenance
  • Diagnose and repair Class 8 tractors and tanker trailers
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and air system issues
  • Repair braking systems, suspensions, and drivetrain components
  • Ensure all equipment meets DOT and company safety standards
  • Maintain accurate repair and inspection documentation

Trailer & Tanker Work
  • Inspect and repair tanker components including valves, pumps, and fittings
  • Perform leak checks and ensure proper functionality of tanker systems
  • Maintain compliance with hazmat and tanker safety requirements

Shop & Equipment Support
  • Perform yard checks to verify equipment readiness
  • Assist with scheduling preventative maintenance
  • Work with parts vendors to complete repairs efficiently
  • Maintain tools and shop equipment in safe working condition
  • Follow and promote safe shop practices

Requirements
Required
  • 2-5+ years of experience working on Class 8 trucks or heavy diesel equipment
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
  • Basic tools required for diesel repair work
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Strong attention to safety and quality workmanship

Preferred
  • Experience working in a trucking or tanker fleet maintenance shop
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs
  • CDL is a plus
  • Tanker or hazmat experience is a plus
