Job description

Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role:
As a Senior ADAS System Safety Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the safety of GM's advanced driver assistance systems. You will lead and deliver safety cases for assigned ADAS features DAA2.0 (Driver Attention Assist), RIM (Rear Imminent Mitigation) and Next Gen Super Cruise by executing the GM System Safety Process in vehicle applications. Your work will directly contribute to GM's vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
You bring both technical depth and big-picture thinking - balancing safety, performance, and feature availability - while driving innovation from concept through vehicle launch. In this role, you will influence how safety is designed, analyzed, validated, and continuously improved across complex ADAS systems.
We are looking for a highly energetic, creative problem-solver and technical leader who can own system safety work end-to-end, collaborate across disciplines, and evolve our safety methodology to meet the challenges of next-generation vehicle platforms.
What You'll Do:
  • Follow GM System Safety process that aligns with ISO26262 to conduct functional safety work
  • Drive systems safety analysis, hazard identification, and risk mitigation efforts using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Decompose top-level system functions to perform hazard analysis and develop safety requirements
  • Develop and maintain clear development plan for system safety deliverables
  • Partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders to develop & deploy a safety strategy that balances feature availability & performance
  • Support definition of the validation & verification plan for safety requirements that evaluates the end-to-end implementation
  • Lead and support developing solutions to safety issues during bench and vehicle development
  • Coach cross-functional teams on safety critical system and process-specific knowledge, consulting Senior System Safety engineers as needed.

Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):
  • Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other Engineering degrees
  • A minimum 5 years of post-graduation industry engineering experience in systems safety, systems engineering, software engineering, development or other related fields
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems
  • Basic knowledge of Semiconductor and SoC (System on Chip)
  • Strong technical leadership skills and an ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Strong communication skills and strong project management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and has an ability for problem solving
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues locally and at remote sites

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Experience developing safety cases for ADAS or automated driving features
  • Hands on experience applying ISO 26262, SOTIF, or related safety standards in production programs
  • Experience performing HARA, FMEA, FTA, or other formal safety analysis techniques
  • Prior involvement in vehicle integration, validation, or road testing of safety critical systems
  • Experience working with embedded software, perception, controls, or vehicle dynamics teams
  • Ability to mentor others and help evolve system safety processes and best practices within a large, matrixed organization
