A housing specialist works in a government social services office and helps clients find affordable housing. Clients may include low- to moderate-income families, veterans, the homeless, disabled, or senior citizens. As a housing specialist, your responsibilities involve interviewing housing applicants, contacting housing agents, and monitoring a client’s progress. You may also prepare instructional materials on financial issues such as rent payment and budget management. To pursue a career as a housing specialist, you need to complete a training course to earn certification. Some employers prefer candidates with experience in social work or with a government agency.
