What Does a Chiropractic Assistant Do?

As a chiropractic assistant, you provide general support to chiropractors. Chiropractors offer medical treatments to patients with back pain and other health concerns. Your responsibilities as a chiropractic assistant depend on the particular needs of the clinic where you work. Your job may be primarily that of an office assistant, handling scheduling, billing, insurance documentation, and patient charts. Or your job may involve clinical tasks, such as assisting chiropractors during patient visits, analyzing test results, and taking X-rays. Regardless of your position, a career as a chiropractic assistant requires good people skills and strong organizational skills.

How to Become a Chiropractic Assistant

To become a chiropractic assistant, you need a minimum of a high school diploma. Some chiropractor offices require additional qualifications, such as post-secondary training and certification. You can get training at vocational schools or community colleges. The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards offers an exam for candidates who complete at least 24 hours of post-secondary education. If you pass the exam, you earn the Certified Chiropractic Clinical Assistant certification. The training and certification process gives you skills that enable you to perform more clinical duties and work directly with patients. As an unlicensed clinical assistant, you will do more administrative jobs.
